Getting here
Skalanes lies on the southern side of the fjord, 19km east of Seydisfjordur in the East fjords region of East Iceland. It takes approximately half an hour to drive from the town along a rough track that has three rivers crossing it. The last 4km is therefore only passable by four-wheel drive vehicle, or on foot along a marked trail with footbridges.

From Seydisfjordur we are 17km out the fjord. Notice that the last 4km are 4X4 jeep road but otherwise it is a bridged walking path.
If you require collection in one of our 4 wheel drive vehicles, please let us know when you make your booking. Collection and return from Seydisfjordur costs 8000 IKR per vehicle, or 4000 IKR per vehicle from first river crossing.
It is possible to reach the site by hiking along either of the two marked trails from Mjoifjordur. The site can also be accessed by boat from Seydisfjordur or from the sea.
Visitor comment
“We stayed the extra day. Wish we could have stayed the extra month. Skalanes definitely gave us the ‘at the edge of the world’ feeling we were looking for in Iceland”Oskar and Marjella – Netherlands, July 2011
